What is Pickleball?

Fun, social and friendly. The rules are simple and the game is easy for beginners to learn, but can develop into a quick, fast-paced, competitive game for experienced players.

About APA Pickleball

The Amateur Pickleball Association and APA Tournaments run pickleball tournaments for amateur players across the country at some of the top destination facilities available.  From elite tennis facilities like USC to premier indoor and outdoor pickleball clubs like Pickles (Hanover, MA), Lucky Shots (Minneapolis, MN), Mercer Bucks Pickleball Club (Hamilton Township, NJ), Oasis Pickleball Club (Rockwall, TX), Dreamland (Austin, TX) and the USTA National Campus (Orlando, FL).  Dozens of states from coast to coast for our weekend warriors to compete with others in their area in a tournament setting.

APA events follow the USA Pickleball Association rules and guidelines for play as USA Pickleball is the national governing body for the sport. The format for each event may differ based on the series that particular event falls under (Amateur Open, Gold Cup, etc) but those details are listed under the Event Formats page above.

Check out the event details page for each posted event for more additional information.

Why Amateur Pickleball Association at The 1965 Group?

The 1965 Group was formed in 2021, along with the Amateur Pickleball Association and APA Tournaments, as a nod to the founders of our sport.  The APA will maintain a primary focus on the growth of the sport through tournaments that include Junior, Collegiate, and Open Series player experiences by hosting at some of the premier tennis and pickleball facilities around the country.  More events for easier access to promote increased play are what our players have requested across the country.  We want to bring these experiences to as many locations and players as possible while continuously cultivating a positive player atmosphere during our events.

2024 Tournament Series Formats

Amateur Open

Five game minimum, single game matches during round-robin and medal match stages, with awards for Gold/Silver/Bronze.  Divisions may include multiple age divisions within a given skill level.

Gold Cup Series

The Gold Cup Series of events were developed for extended play and longer matches.  Five game minimum (most playing 6+), single game matches during round-robin and medal match stages with medal match finals being a best 2 of 3 set, and awards for Gold/Silver/Bronze. Divisions may include multiple age divisions within a given skill level.  Those claiming Gold will be invited to the Gold Cup National Championships.

PickleFest

2024 welcomes PickleFest as a permanent series of events with a “team” format in place.  Each team will need 4 males and 4 females to compete in men’s doubles, mixed doubles and singles matches during the event.  Individual results will earn Gold/Silver/Bronze within each skill level/division while team results count towards additional medals across the entire event.
